Top 5 DESSERT trends for 2012 / 2013…
As Heraclitus once said “There is nothing permanent except change”. And the same applies to wedding trends – they’re constantly changing. What is hot one day may well be old news the next which is why dessert trends are close to top of the popular wedding trends list. We’ve seen malva pudding with custard, and fruit salad with ice cream make their weary way onto dessert tables time and again, but these five hotties are my firm favourites:
Fruity Fresh
Health consciousness has become a lifestyle that’s not going to go away so why not cater for that with fresh fruits that are making a huge comeback in deconstructive pavlovas, skewers with canapés, and the like. Any wedding would be perfect with a banana and caramel pancake stand. And Farmers’ Market inspired baskets filled with fresh berries, apples and oranges make for perfect table décor.
Ice Creams
A scoop of newly made ice cream or a refreshing float is the perfect way to cool off on a hot afternoon and guests of all ages are sure to enjoy this element of fun. Or have an ice cream trolley with an array of flavours complete with toppers, dips and yet more fruit doing the rounds among the tables.
Cupcakes
Many predicted that the cupcake trend would fade but they’re still a huge hit, especially on a dedicated cupcake buffet. Each little cupcake is a blank palette that can be turned into whatever you want it to be – a small flower, a miniature character, a decadent cake. Toppers with your wedding date or initials are the perfect way to personalise your wedding dessert. Or simply decorate them with your favorite icing. Even better, sparkling designer wrappers for your cupcakes outshine a traditional wedding cake any day.
Macaroons
These versatile treats lend themselves to every occasion – they come in a variety of colours, can be baked with almost any filling, and are fabulous to have when tea and coffee is served. And if you put them in a charming little bag tied with a ribbon in your wedding colours your guests can even take them home as party favours.
Vintage Candy Bar
Thinking of taking the candy buffet to the next level? Then try using candy reminiscent of your childhood – pick out your favourite ribbon candy, bubble gum and lollipops for a delightfully retro display; organising them either by colour or style makes an eye catching arrangement. Those not too keen on the vintage idea can try pistachio nougat, meringue towers and even fridge chocolate brownie lollies.
And that’s only five ideas; there is so much you can do with your dessert station…
