Expenses overlooked…

When budgeting for a wedding, it’s easy to remember the large expenses – the venue, catering, flowers, cake, and of course, the dress. However there are certain aspects, often overlooked, which could add up to a hefty oversight if not planned for properly. Here are some of the most common additional expenses you should be aware of in order to avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of the night.

Gratuities
Before you sign any of your vendor contracts make sure they specify whether or not gratuity is included. Service providers who own their own businesses do not expect tips, as they have already included everything in their initial negotiations with you. However when it comes to the reception venue you should ask the representative about the policy for tipping the waitron staff, bar tenders etc. If gratuities are not included expect to pay between 10 to 15% of the total catering bill. In the event of a service provider having done an extraordinary job, you could send a note of appreciation and a small gift after the fact.

Corkage Fee
As the sale of wine is particularly lucrative to any venue most will try to prevent you from bringing your own by charging a high corkage fee. If you are planning to bring in alcohol from outside, prepare to pay an additional R 30.00 to R 50.00 for each opened bottle – it’s imperative to check with your venue well in advance what the policy is regarding BRINGING YOUR OWN as often it is not permitted.

Overtime Fees
Your service providers will very probably charge you a fee should they work more hours than initially agreed upon. Ask your reception venue what the rules are if you go over your allocated time and make sure any overtime costs are clearly spelled out in all of your service provider contracts.
